From Friday, May 10, to Sunday, May 12, “Lanificio Digitale”, a space inside the Ex Lanificio Borbonico at Porta Capuana in Naples, will host New Fluxus - an international event on the new languages of contemporary art - created in collaboration with the artist collective NFTCC (NFT Community Conference). New Fluxus: three days of performance art, AI Art, and Cryptoart in Naples, with audiovisual shows, talks, and workshops

Three days of performance art, AI Art, and Cryptoart with audiovisual shows, talks, and workshops, in spaces set up with a stage, video projections, installations, and cathode-ray cubes, where physical and digital works will coexist. A one-of-a-kind immersive experience, in which the audience will be actively involved in creating and interpreting digital art.

New Fluxus* stems from an idea by the artistic director of Lanificio Digitale, Simona Zamparelli, thanks to a fruitful partnership with NFTCC, the collective of visionary artists and trendsetters founded by the artist Luca Martinelli (alias Vandalo Ruins), and it is the space's first art event.

The urban regeneration project

This will also be the occasion to launch the ambitious urban regeneration project to create an Open Innovation & Cultural Hub, which will be officially presented by the founding partners of Lanificio Digitale, Davide Bussetti and Giordano Iovine, to the institutions (with Laura Lieto, deputy mayor of the City of Naples, and Valeria Fascione, Councilor for Research, Innovation and Startups of the Campania Region) and to startuppers, innovators, potential investors, and experts from academia and the digital world - on Saturday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. during the talk “Sguardo verso il Futuro: Innovazione per il Territorio” at Lanificio 25 -.

The project is challenging and aims - through the renovation and redevelopment of a multifunctional space of more than 900 square meters located inside the Ex Lanificio Borbonico (where other organizations promoting social and cultural initiatives are already present) - to create at Porta Capuana, in the heart of the historic center of Naples, a hub for culture and new technologies, available to the city and a point of reference for the area.

The event, dedicated to digital art and new technologies, will close on Sunday, May 12, at 7:00 p.m. with a live performance at Made in Cloister, where the collective's artist Ivona Tau will interact, through artificial intelligence, with the physical works of the exhibition Interaction currently on view at the Cloister.

Art and new technologies

“We hope for a large turnout of the public and of curious visitors at this first inaugural event of Lanificio Digitale's future cultural program, which will combine art and new technologies,” said an enthusiastic Simona Zamparelli – artistic director of Lanificio Digitale and curator of the event.

“Over the exhibition days there will be meetings and talks with artists, gallerists, entrepreneurs, and art historians; we will attend ‘keynote speeches’ combining the sound of the voice with visual effects, and conventional boundaries will be challenged, where the digital is not the ultimate goal, but people and their emotional intelligence.”

Davide Bussetti – CEO and Co-Founder of Lanificio Digitale together with Giordano Iovine: “As an engineer in the TLC sector and an entrepreneur for more than twenty years, I have always worked in innovation, and together with my partner I have built long experience as a Google Cloud partner, establishing a solid partnership in Italy with my company in 2013, followed by others to support companies and public bodies in the transition to the digital world.

The project stems from the ‘give back’ model, according to which those who have gained entrepreneurial experience have a moral duty to transfer their background to their community. So we invested in Porta Capuana, with a space in the Ex Lanificio Borbonico, and we strongly believe in creating here a hub that combines innovation and culture, a factory of ideas able to involve the city and the entire area in a virtuous process of urban regeneration centered on developing our young talent”.

NFTCC (NFT Community Conference) is a movement that brings together digital culture and Italian heritage, creating real impact in the cities where it takes place. It is not just a conference, but a traveling platform that includes exhibitions and summits on innovation, collective creativity, and art, with a focus on crypto art, audio-video performances, and the use of tools such as TouchDesigner. It also offers networking opportunities among talent, services, business, and investment.

*New Fluxus - the name is meant to represent a new social and cultural movement, inspired by the “Fluxus” movement of the ’50s–’70s. With the new generations of artists and their new languages, the aim is to re-familiarize the concept of “making art” with new expressions and/or provocations. Sounds and artistic performances place the viewer at the center, offering an experience that is not only immersive but also one of belonging to the time and space in which everything becomes a work of art.

Lanificio Digitale (the Urban Regeneration Project) is a business working in new technologies, located inside the former Lanificio Borbonico at Porta Capuana. It was founded with the goal of creating an Open Innovation & Cultural Hub in Naples, through an ambitious urban regeneration effort able to promote art, culture, and new technologies, aimed at the growth of the area's young talent.

The chosen space consists of the more than 900 square meters acquired within the archaeo-industrial complex of the former Lanificio Borbonico, in the areas overlooking the Cloister of Santa Caterina a Formiello, in the heart of the historic center of Naples.

A true ecosystem of sustainable innovation, a multifunctional space open to cross-pollination which, once redeveloped and renovated, is ready to host coaching, team building, meetings and exchanges between professionals and digital talent, exhibitions, and art initiatives such as New Fluxus, which combines art and new technologies, will take place May 10–12, 2024, and inaugurates the initiatives of the challenging project to transform the area into a hub for culture and the promotion of innovation.
